Claude in Google Workspace: training or integration?
If your team needs to review or edit an open Google Workspace file, start by evaluating the available tool and task-specific training. If it must find other files, create deliverables or share them, also assess connectors and permissions. A process that must run without a person at the keyboard needs a defined integration and operating model. These are different scopes; buying them together without separate acceptance tests makes gaps harder to identify.
The distinction that changes what you buy
Anthropic documents two surfaces. The Workspace add-on edits the open file and is in beta for Pro, Max, Team and Enterprise. Connectors work with Google services from Claude; Docs, Sheets and Slides are separate from Drive, which handles search and sharing. Reviewed October 14, 2026.
Use that distinction to describe the work. Asking an analyst to review a formula and asking a recurring close process to produce and deliver a report may start in the same spreadsheet. They still need different tests and owners. Training can teach the first task. The second requires checking each handoff.
Separate training, configuration and development
This matrix is a purchasing framework proposed by Duotach. It does not describe a completed implementation or guarantee that each feature is enabled in your account.
| Expected task | Evaluate first | Evidence to request |
|---|---|---|
| Review a formula in the open spreadsheet | Tool and analyst training | The analyst explains and checks the calculation |
| Edit a report while preserving requirements | Training and human review | Before-and-after text comparison |
| Create another file from source information | Connectors and permissions, then training | File in the expected location with verified sources |
| Share a deliverable with another person | Permissions and recipient approval | Effective access for the authorized recipient |
| Repeat the process without opening a chat | Integration, trigger and operations | Execution record, recovery and accountable owner |
Ask the supplier to distinguish native product capabilities from configuration and custom development. More training does not remove a product limitation. Equally, custom development should follow a check of whether available features already cover the task.
What IT should check before expanding licenses
For the add-on, Anthropic lists limitations involving Docs comments, Connected Sheets and linked charts; Zero Data Retention is unavailable. Review its current limits and controls with IT before approving internal information. Do not assume API conditions apply to this surface.
Access decisions need your own inventory: account, file, read or edit permission, permitted recipient and the owner who can revoke access. Check availability in the specific plan and account. Buying a license does not establish that an administrator has enabled the required capability.
Begin evaluation with synthetic files and a recoverable copy. Agree who authorizes a test using real information. Separate permission to edit from authorization to send or share: one person being able to open a file does not make every recipient appropriate.
Evaluate before buying the full scope
Define the expected result and the error that would make each task fail. This exercise uses synthetic information; it is not a completed pilot or evidence of time savings.
A spreadsheet with a known error
Include an incorrect formula and a correct reference total. Request an explanation and correction. Check changed cells and formulas that should remain intact.
A document with required details
Request an edit that preserves a fictional date, exception and amount. Compare the result with that checklist; fluent prose does not replace verification.
A new file with a defined destination
Check which connection is used, where the file lands and whether necessary sources remain available. Record manual steps separately.
Delivery and recovery
In a test environment, verify the permitted recipient and recover an earlier version. If the workflow stops, identify how it resumes without duplicate deliveries.
Record the tool version, account, permissions, result, corrections and human review time. Compare the same task without assistance, with assistance and after training. A supplier demonstration measures the supplier; also ask an internal user to complete the task.
Request scopes you can compare
For training, request role-specific tasks, permitted material, verification exercises and completion criteria. The intended outcome is a team able to operate the tool with sound judgment. For an integration, also specify source and destination, trigger, permissions, error handling, execution records and support terms. If work runs automatically, define who receives alerts and who decides to retry.
Separate licenses, training, configuration and development in the proposal. Identify dependencies that could prevent a start, such as a pending permission or unavailable feature. If the workflow is not yet understood, agree on paid discovery before promising automation.
Do not count all draft-generation time as savings. An expansion decision needs review time, corrections, exceptions and maintenance. Acceptance criteria should cover quality and control alongside time. Without a consistent comparison, return on investment remains unverified.
When to contact Duotach
Duotach offers corporate Claude training and AI integrations. Scope depends on tasks, permissions and required connections. Training and development are contracted separately where appropriate; licenses and availability are checked before scope is finalized.
Describe the department, the task and where the work ends today. Do not send confidential documents or credentials. The inquiry starts a conversation to define the service; it does not include a diagnosis or a demonstration using your files.
Start with the task your team needs to complete
If the gap is using and reviewing the tool, ask about training. If work crosses files, permissions or systems, describe those handoffs to separate configuration from development.
